In this episode I interview fanfiction writer Muchadoloo about her Mandalorian multi-chapter fic ‘Hold Me By the Heart.’ She describes her first discovery of fanfiction on fan-run archive sites and finding a sense of community with others who also imagined alternative events and endings for movies and TV shows. We discuss our mutual love for the angst trope and Muchadoloo offers some thoughtful reasons as to why that trope is so compelling. She recalls how her desire to see more diverse inclusion inspired her to write, and how she was introduced to The Mandalorian by watching it with her sister. We talk about themes of parenthood, trauma, adoption, and emotional bonding in her fic along with the ‘Psych Corner’ content she includes in the author’s notes. Muchadoloo shares her views on writing and stresses the importance of allowing ourselves patience, grace, and joy in the process. She reminds writers everywhere that it’s okay to step away from stat counting and simply fall in love with your own work.
