TW: Hydra Trash Party and Non-Con are mentioned in this episode
In this episode I interview fanfiction writer FlamingoQueen about her MCU WinterHawk fic called ‘Blue-Eyed Matador.’
FlamingoQueen recalls her childhood love for storytelling, and how she used to hand make little books with original stories and illustrations. She often made up delightfully creative oral fanfiction stories for her brother, and remembers how delighted she was to discover fanfiction’s existence while studying in college.
We discuss Captain America: Winter Soldier and its tragic protagonist, Bucky Barnes. FlamingoQueen explains the reasons why the Winter Soldier makes a compelling subject, and tells us why she chose to present a story that features broken characters who don’t completely heal but still find happy endings.
She shares how her idea for a serial killer Bucky fic came from a song called ‘The Matador’ by The White Buffalo. We talk about themes of identity, trauma, vengeance, and found family. ‘Blue-Eyed Matador’ is currently a slow-burn WIP, and FlamingoQueen assures us that WinterHawk is the endgame pairing for this story.
She expresses amazement and gratitude for the connections and friendships she’s made through fanfiction, and encourages writers to put themselves out there and foster connections with the readers and community.
Thank you for coming on, FlamingoQueen!
Keep on rollin’!
