In this episode I interview fanfiction writer JujYFru1T about her Fruits Basket and Yuri!!! On Ice fics ‘Be Present, Be Willing To Love’ and ‘Winter Covers Everything.’
JujYFru1T started out by reading fanfictions on fandom specific archive sites and FFN, and remembers making up original short stories on an audio recorder as a kid. Her parents encouraged her creativity, and her dad used to transcribe her original stories into booklets for her.
She talks about discovering Fruits Basket manga as a teenager and then falling in love with the anime because of the story’s honest depictions of loss, trauma, and healing. JujYFru1T was already an ice skate sports fan when Yuri!!! On Ice came out, and she adored the beautiful love story between Yuri and Victor.
JujYFru1T describes herself as an avid poly shipper and explains the reasons why she’s drawn to writing polyship dynamics. We explore poly fic’s capacity to defy ship wars, enrich relationship dynamics, and expand the ways we define love.
We discuss the inspiration points for both her fics and touch on themes of love, trust, and self discovery. She shares details on her writing style, the current projects she is working on, and encourages fanfiction writers to create for themselves first.
